Dear parents/guardians,

We are well into a busy last term. As well as school tours, sports days, football, hurling, athletics and rounders, teachers are pressing ahead with classwork and very important revision and assessment takes place during this term. Therefore, it is important that your child continues to focus properly on their work, both in school and at home.

Measúnú Caighdeánach

Standardised Assessment Tests are taking place from Senior Infants to 6th class. Standardised assessment is used to measure a child’s achievement compared to other children throughout the country at the same class level. Standardised tests are not intelligence tests. The main purposes of using standardised tests are to help the teacher plan your child’s learning, and to inform you about how well your child is doing in English reading and maths.

Should you wish to access further information about standardised testing you may do so by accessing the NCCA website: www.ncca.ie

An Chéad Chomaoineach

Fr. Dooley celebrated First Communion with 18 children in St. Paul’s church on Sunday 4th May @ 11a.m. We would like to thank Ms. Molloy & Ms. Casey for all their hard work in preparing the children for the day. Our thanks to Ms. Greene for preparing the choir and to the children who sang so beautifully on the day.

Turais Scoile

The following are the dates for this year’s school tours:

Cúrsaí Ealaíne

3rd Class have finished their BLAST art project with Evgeny Chubatyy. Over the past 4 weeks the children created Celtic-style animals out of clay, made compasses out of bamboo canes to measure the school yard and used plaster and natural materials to create 3D models of the school and their dream home/farm/treehouse etc. The project was a big success and the children loved the opportunities to work alongside an artist, experience a different art style and to use new materials.

Congrats to our boys hurling teams on reaching Cumann na mBunscol finals. Congrats also to our Roinn 6 team who played so well but were beaten by an excellent Abbeyliex team. Our Roinn 2 team had a fantastic, hard-earned victory in their game with Ballyfin.

Our thanks to all our teachers who are so supportive of the games in the school but in particular, Ms. Byrne, Ms. Bohan and Mr. Cushen who coached the teams.

Well done to the boys and girls who represented our school in the Cross Country competition in Rathleague on Friday 23rd

– Junior Girls (3rd & 4th) came 1st overall in their category and 1st overall amongst all teams.

– Junior Boys (3rd & 4th) came 2nd in their category.

– Senior Girls (5th & 6th) came 3rd overall in their category.

We are extremely proud of the effort and success of all our young athletes. There’s no doubt that the daily 1k runs are paying off!
