Dear parents/guardians,
There are some important notices which I would like to bring to your attention.
Sixth Class Graduation
We had graduation yesterday where we celebrated the end of the year for our 6th class. I would like to compliment them on their achievements during the course of this year and others, in many different spheres of school life.
Our thanks to Ms. Greene for organising the graduation and to the Parents Association for organising the refreshments.
The staff and I would like to wish them the best of luck on their onward journey. With 6th class departing we are also losing some parents. A special thank you to them for their support and involvement in school life over the duration of their child’s education here in Emo.
We also bid a fond farewell to Ms. Greene, who is leaving us after 15 years in Emo National School. Aoife has been a fantastic teacher, colleague and friend to so many. On behalf of the staff and children, I would like to thank her for all the care and dedication she has shown over the years. With her incredible musical talents, Aoife has led so many wonderful shows and performances that have provided lasting memories for both children and parents. We wish her all the best in the next chapter of her journey and have no doubt that she will excel in her new role and beyond.
Class Requisites for Next Year
As you are aware from last year there is no charge/fee on books and copies to parents. Each class has a list of requisites for which there is a charge. Like last year, we have agreed with the Parents Association that the school would purchase these items in bulk to reduce costs etc. A requisites fee will appear on Aladdin later today/tomorrow for those who wish to get it paid now.
School Calendar
The return date for the beginning of the next school year will be Thursday 28th August. The calendar for the school year has been published in the calendar area of our website. School will close on this Thursday 26th June @12.30p.m. The usual arrangements will apply with juniors and seniors leaving at 12p.m with their brothers and sisters and the remaining children at 12.30p.m.
Classes and Teachers for 2025/2026
We have 3 fixed-term vacancies for the coming year, to be filled through interview process. Therefore, we are not in a position at this time to confirm teacher allocations for all classes. We welcome Ríona Duggan to our staff, having been appointed from the supplementary redeployment panel. The job share arrangement in 1st class will continue next year with Ms. Hooban and Ms. Donegan. They will meet with parents in the first week of the new school term to outline the structure and answer any queries.

Texaco Art – We are delighted to announce that we had great success with the Texaco Art Competition again this year. 5 of our pupils received Highly Commended certificates for their beautiful art pieces. This is no small feat as up to 20,000 pupils all around Ireland compete every year and the artwork is judged by esteemed figures in the art world. Congratulations to Éada Mulhall, Carl Lewis McMahon, Nicole McCormack and Blake Breen, all in Junior Infants, and to Anna McCarthy in 4th Class. Our thanks to Ms. Maher, who has done so much to promote art in our school and increase participation in this competition.

Missing books – We are organising and checking our school books at the moment. We would really appreciate parents checking at home to see have they any of the books listed here. Please return them to the school in the morning if you find them.
- The ice cream van was an extremely popular visitor for our recent sports day. Our thanks to the Parents Association for organising same.
- 4th and 5th class recently had a visit from Jim Sheehan, founder and director of Surecom, to tell us about a motorcycle trip he did from Vilnius, Lithuania, up to the North Pole. Jim shared pictures, videos and stories about his journey and his plans to travel to the South Pole next. The children and teachers thoroughly enjoyed his visit.
- Congrats to our 3 rounders teams who reached the Cumann na mBunscol finals day in COE, Portlaoise, recently. Our mixed team, made up of younger, less experienced players did very well to reach the finals’ day. Our boys team won their final, defeating The Heath and regaining the cup that they lost last year. Our girls team narrowly lost their final against Killeen N.S.
Well done to all the players involved and thanks very much to all our past pupils and club players who refereed and managed teams on both the qualifier day in Emo and the finals day in the COE. Our thanks to Mr. Slevin who gives so much of his own time to training children and organising teams.
Focal Buíochas:
We are very grateful for the help and support of so many parents in our school. This has long been a hallmark of Emo National School. A special word of thanks to the Parents’ Association and Board of Management of the school who do tremendous work in the background.
Finally, on behalf of everybody in Emo NS, may I take this opportunity to say well done to all our pupils. They should be very proud of their efforts and progress this year. We look forward to meeting you again on the 28th August. In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy a lovely summer break.
