Chess: More Than Just a Game!
In our positive school environment, learning goes beyond our textbooks and tests. Activities that challenge the mind while supporting wellbeing play a powerful role in helping the students of Emo NS thrive, and chess is a wonderful example of this balance in action!
The students have been learning how to play chess over the last number of weeks and a massive thanks to Mr. Cushen who now has chess club up and running in the school.
Chess encourages students to think critically, plan ahead, and solve problems with confidence. Each game invites players to pause, reflect, and consider their choices, helping them develop patience, focus, and resilience. These skills don’t stay on the chessboard, they naturally transfer into the classroom and everyday life, supporting stronger learning habits and independent thinking.
The children are really enjoying learning how to play the game and challenging students from other classes. Keep up the good work.
