		<description><![CDATA[Thirty children will make their First Communion on Sunday next in St. Paul&#8217;s  church at 11am mass . The Parents Association have published a newsletter with important notices for your attention which will be distributed today . Well done to all the boys and girls in 5th and 6th class on their performances in the Dunamaise theatre on Thursday and Friday last . Our thanks to Ms. Greene for all her hard work in preparing the children of the event . We welcomed new parents with their children to Emo National School on Friday last, 10th May 2013 . They visited the junior infant room  and got to meet  the other children in their class . We welcome the Rock National School to Emo tomorrow for a 3rd and 4th class camogie/hurling blitz .Our camogie A team will represent the school in the Cumann na mBunscol finals on Thursday 23rd May . The hurling A team will play Clonaslee in a semi-final on Friday 17th May . At assembly on Friday last we got an update from Ms. Bradshaw&#8217;s class  on their plants that they recently sowed . Mr. Cushen&#8217;s class presented some beautiful aboriginal art . Ms. Deffew&#8217;s class sang &#8216;Who built the arc &#8216; and Mr. Kirwan got the biggest cheer of the day when he  treated the children to an Ed Sheeran song  .]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[EMO   NATIONAL   SCHOOL PARENTS ASSOCIATION                                                                                                 14TH May 2013 Dear Parents, Since last Christmas the Parents Association has held some fundraising events: Green Day on March 14th raised €363.20 Table Quiz on April 19th raised €690 Flag Day in Supervalu on May 10th &#38; 11th raised €720 The copper run is still ongoing and this has been extended until Friday 14th June. On this day we will gather all the coppers. Make sure to keep all your 5c, 2c and 1c coins. This Friday (17th May) we will be holding our Annual Cake and Book Sale in the school hall from 9.30 am. We are looking for lots of buns, cakes, books, etc to be donated. These can be left to the school on Friday morning or given to any member of the Committee. The Bonus Ball is continuing to run and we would like to thank all the parents who support this. From the monies raised we have been able to give money to the school for: Assessments. Science Equipment. Library Books. Subsidising of the swimming. All the monies raised by the Parents Association goes towards the children of the school, we kindly ask for your continued support. Last but by no means least, the Parents Association has received a donation from Laois County Council through Cllr Tom Mulhall of €1000. The Committee  have decided to purchase equipment for the children from this money. The Junior floor have received lots of equipment for the yard and the Senior floor have received a second table tennis table. 		<description><![CDATA[22ú Aibreán 2013 &#160; Dear Parents , I would like to bring the following notices to your attention ; Féilire na Scoile: School Calendar The following are the key dates which will take us up to the summer holidays. The school will be closed on the following dates :  Friday 3rd May, Tuesday 7th May   and Friday May 31st   School Closes for the summer holidays on Friday, June 28th. The provisional calendar for the school year 2013/14 is being formulated at the moment. Parents should note that the school will resume after the holidays on Thursday, August 29th. &#160; Cruinnithe Eolais: Information Meetings for Parents of New Entrants An information meeting for parents of children who will start with us in junior infants in the coming school year will take place on Friday 10th May at 12.30p.m.   Chomaoineach; Communion Fr. Dooley will celebrate First Communion in St. Paul’s church on Sunday 19th May @ 11a.m. Tionóil na Scoile: School Assemblies On a weekly basis the pupils from each class come together for a weekly Tionól (Assembly).  At this Tionól we celebrate the achievements of our pupils and we also put the emphasis on different aspects of school life.  During the month of May we will focus on the importance we attach to healthy eating and exercise. We seek parents’ co-operation to revisit the good habits that we have established in the school with healthy lunches etc. Over the coming weeks teachers will revise the food pyramid and the importance of making healthy choices. Aonach Leabhair; Book Fair We have a book fair in the school at the moment which will run until this Thursday 22nd April . The book fair is open to parents @ 8.35a.m, 1.35 p.m and 2.30p.m .would like to thank Mrs. Fennelly for organising same .   Cúrsai Spóirt; Sports News Cumann na mBunscol leagues are underway and I would like to thank all the teachers for their help in ensuring the smooth running of these leagues. Mr. Slevin is teaching rounders to the boys in 4th and 5th class on Wednesdays and Fridays after school . Ms. Bradshaw and Ms. Hooban will take the 4th and 5th class girls for rounders on Wednesdays after school. Tag Rugby has started in the school on Wednesdays for second and third class pupils. Athbhreithniú ; Review Mr. Costello is seeking your help in compiling photographs of 6th class during their years in Emo National School. We would appreciate, if you could forward to any photographs that could be included in the review on a CD or memory stick asap .  The photographs will be saved and memory sticks etc will returned to you. Cór Náisiúnta na nÓg;National Children’s Choir   We are delighted to announce that the school choir will perform in the Dunamaise Theatre on Thursday and Friday 9th and 10th of May @ 8p.m. on both evenings . The choir is made up of the boys and girls of Emo National School and St. Paul’s N.S. Portlaoise . We look forward to your support for these concerts. The choir will perform the repertoire of the National Children’s Choir. The theme this year is “Eist –Can you hear me”.  The children will sing a wide variety of songs &#8211; folk, Irish, classical, gospel and pop. All tastes will be satisfied and you are guaranteed a great night’s entertainment. Tickets are on sale in the Dunamaise Theatre. 		<description><![CDATA[At our assembly this morning junior infants ,senior infants ,third class and fifth class told the school about some of the work they have been doing recently . From Ms. Deffew&#8217;s class , Ryanne O&#8217; Sullivan,Roy Lawlor and Charlie Meagher told us all about the bulbs that they are planting . Junior infants, Eleanor and Hugh showed us  the Easter basket they made and Ellie and Niamh told us about the collection that the children made for Trocaire . Eoin and Eimear explained how Ms. Bradshaw&#8217;s class  have been reading each morning with third class and how much they enjoyed it . We also congratulated Oscar Booth and Paul Whyte on their excellent handwriting . We really enjoyed listening to Mr. Slevin&#8217;s class today who have done some very interesting work with a wormery in their classroom .There will be more developments in their story after Easter . Mr. Healy&#8217;s class have done some really beautiful pieces of sculpture and they presented their pieces  to the school this morning . Congratulations to the boys and girls in 5th and 6th class for organising the internal football leagues so well . Ned Ryan had a birthday today .Conor Montague and Brian Ryan sang him happy birthday . &#160;]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[Dear Parents , We are at the end of another busy term. The brighter mornings and evenings have given us all a lift. It is lovely to see the daffodils on the way into school and we look forward to a warming up over the coming months. &#160; Féilire na Scoile: School Calendar The school will close at 12.30p.m. tomorrow Friday 22nd for the Easter holidays .Junior ,seniors with brothers and sisters may be picked up at 12p.m. Monday 8th April 2013- School reopens at 8.50a.m. Céad Faoistin; First Confession Congratulations to second class who made their First Confession on Thursday 7th March in St . Paul’s church. Many thanks to Fr. Dooley,Fr. Hughes and Ms. Casey  for all their work . We also thank the Parents Association for organising the cupán tae afterwards in the school hall. Cúrsai Spóirt; Sports News Second, third and fourth classes completed their lunchtime football leagues yesterday. The leagues were enjoyed by all. Many thanks to the fifth and sixth class boys and girls for their excellent organisation. The Cumann na mBunscol hurling and camogie leagues get underway after Easter.  Third and fourth class boys and girls will participate in a football blitz in the Rock N.S. today. Cúrsaí Liteartha: Literacy Matters We would like to thank all the parents who took the time to complete and return the School Self Evaluation questionnaire recently. The pupils also completed a questionnaire. We hope to use the information to improve teaching and learning in the school. We are putting a strong focus on Literacy this year. All classes have been involved in paired reading during this term .Pupils from the older classes have been reading with children from the younger classes. P.T.O &#160; The following suggestions from School Development Planner Anne Goggins might be useful in relation to the development of oral language. Oral Language Set aside 10-15 minutes to discuss the day’s happenings Encourage your child to express and justify opinions Involve your child in adult conversation when appropriate. Talk about the child’s favourite T.V programme. Play language games which focus on words i.e. Scrabble Encourage your child to talk about experiences with a wide range of people ; peers, relations, other adults Listen carefully and clarify meaning ‘Do you mean /or is this what you mean?’ Encourage your child to give reasons for decisions  Encourage your child to listen courteously to the opinions of others.
